Landscape lighting

Garden lighting for the way you use the space

Which part of the garden disappears when you turn the house lights off? We can look at the steps along a dark path or the glare from a fitting beside your seat. Sometimes moving a light already in the garden is a better place to start than adding another.

Paths and steps

Lighting that helps define routes and changes in level.

Planting and features

Selected trees and water features brought into view after dark. Textured walls can also be highlighted.

Seating and controls

Comfortable light around dining and seating with controls agreed as part of the plan.

A garden after dark

Light the places you use first

Take a walk from your gate after dark and then turn around. A fitting that lights the path on the way in can shine straight into your eyes on the way out. At a seat you see it from a lower angle again. The position and direction of the light can matter as much as how bright it is.

Garden lights can look fine from the path and shine straight into your eyes when you sit down. Across 24+ years of work in Dubai we’ve learned to check fittings from the terrace seat after dark. Sometimes a small change of angle is enough.

Lighting positions

Where each fitting earns its place

Some lights help you see an edge. Others pick out foliage or let you keep using a table after sunset. We mark each purpose on the layout before choosing fittings.

  • Paths and transitions

Consider routes and changes in level so the main outdoor movements are clear after dark.

  • Foliage after dark

Highlight selected garden details without making the entire boundary equally bright.

  • Seating and cooking

Coordinate lighting with pergolas and outdoor living areas according to their use.

  • Controls and servicing

Discuss switching and access to fittings before finalising the installation arrangement.

Light within a covered space

Plan the fittings with the surrounding structures

At a cooking counter you need to see the board in front of you. If the only light is behind you your own shadow can fall across it. At the table a bright fitting at eye level can make it hard to see the person opposite. We look at both positions and which lights you want on while eating.

Existing gardens can also be reviewed for lighting improvements. We check what is already installed and discuss whether the existing routes can support the proposed work. New cable routes and any affected surfaces are identified in the scope. Fittings near water require suitable specification and installation for their location. We coordinate that work with the relevant pool or water feature plan rather than treating it as ordinary garden lighting.

The evening survey

Review the garden in its evening setting

Daytime photographs show the layout but evening photographs can help explain what currently feels too dark or too bright. Tell us which outdoor areas you use most and how you want to control the lighting.

If you want to keep an existing switch let us know. We check what it operates now and what would need to change. Your estimate should distinguish new fittings from cable work that could disturb a wall or a stretch of paving.

Different ways to light your garden

01

Arriving home

Consider the entrance and the route from the gate to the house.

02

Dinner outside

Keep the table and preparation areas useful without making the whole garden feel floodlit.

03

A quiet evening

A smaller group of lights can focus attention on seating or a favourite feature.

Outdoor lighting advice

Lighting
after dark

Trouble with glare or a dark step? Tell us where you notice it at night.

Can you improve the lighting already installed?

We check the condition and position of the existing fittings. Some changes can use existing routes. Any additional work is set out in the scope.

Are LED and smart controls available?

LED fittings and smart controls are options. We check that the controller works with the fittings you choose and that you can switch the paths and seating areas as you intend.

Can different garden areas be controlled separately?

Often they can. You might want the gate light on when the dining lights are off. We check the wiring and controls before saying which areas can work independently and what it would take to change them.

Can lighting be added without replacing all the paving?

It depends on where the cables already run and where the new fittings need to go. We trace the accessible routes and identify any paving that would have to come up before you commit to the work.

Walk the garden after sunset

Photograph the route from the gate to your seat. If a lamp catches your eye on the way back a second view from there is useful.
